I’m a spiritual seeker and a social person. I like to live in community with fellow seekers. Besides my inner, personal journey I have many concerns about where my country and my world are going. I would like to communicate with the world in a way that might raise consciousness in people, lead to a new way of looking at things. So I’m starting this blog as an experiment – a way to engage others who may be interested in the connections I make and who might take the time to respond with a little dialogue. I’m more interested in comments that are respectful, that attempt to shed light rather than heat on the issues at hand, but I guess on the internet you take your chances. Disagreement is welcome, though, and I’m open to being challenged in my thinking. I have not set this blog to require approval of comments and will not unless it becomes necessary. Please no bad language, name calling, imputing motives and the like. Respect is the word.
I’m not a very disciplined person. I’m better at starting things than finishing them or maintaining them, so that is another way in which this blog is an experiment. If you respond it will do a lot to keep me going. I believe I do have some things to say that are of value, both in the personal journey and in the outer journey of politics, of social action of the economy. I also have much to learn. I’m a generalist and a holistic thinker. Dualistic, either-or thinking is an enemy of true understanding and an enemy of the spiritual life. More about that later.
I may make reference to the church community in which I live and which nurtures me and keeps me grounded. However, I believe that truth is found in many places – in other faiths, in people of no faith, in belief systems of all kinds (well, most kinds – a few are just sick). Who knows, I may even, from time to time, write about why the church still has a valuable role to play in society. But mostly I am just driven to understand things, to make connections among the things I know and the big questions about life and what it’s all about. You won’t find dogmatic answers or simple solutions here. You may go away with more and deeper questions rather than answers.
I hope you’ll join me on this journey.
